If you haven’t checked out the calendar page, click on the link in the menu. Our local calendar isn’t the only place to get information, but it’s usually the first with updates. Unfortunately, we can’t link properly to the GNYC calendar to pass you directly through to register for events, but we usually have information on where the official link is.
With October here, all those “upcoming events” are here! Here’s a quick run-down of major events all the way to December.
Fall Cub Activity Day / Family Fun Weekend: October 8-10
Come to Alpine Scout Camp and do fun activities like archery, BB gun shooting, and a hayride! Stay for just Saturday, or camp for the whole weekend. A patch is available for the first 400 registrants, so sign up soon!
Brooklyn Trek-O-Ree: October 15-17
This event, at Alpine Scout Camp, is for Scouts BSA and Webelos Scouts. Scouts spend the weekend learning the skills needed to complete Hiking and Backpacking merit badges, and participate in a short trek that is appropriate for their skill level. Space is limited so sign up soon!
The backpacking crew is nearly full. Remember, this one is a workshop and you will be on the trail, not sitting in an indoors classroom talking about backpacking. Similarly, while there are some “classes” there are absolutely hikes. You can’t earn the Hiking Merit Badge sitting in a classroom!
Brooklyn Cosmic Bowling: November 6
Bowling night at Melody Lanes in Sunset Park! Register now for a night of fun.
ITOLS: November 13, 20-21 (All Dates Required)
Intro to Outdoor Leadership Skills is a training to give adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the outdoors. You need this. Really, you do. If you’ve taken it and have other adults in your troop who sometimes go on trips with you, take it again in solidarity to get them to come. There are two parts. November 13 is the classroom part which will end with adults being organized into patrols, just like how the scouts will work. Then, November 20-21 is an overnight camping trip with a whirlwind overview of all the things that scouts are supposed to be familiar with.
Brooklyn BALOO Training: November 20-21
The BALOO Course is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters. This one-and-one-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program.
Cub Scout Aquatics: December 2
Come down to FIAO Brooklyn with Wolves, Bears, and Webelos to complete electives in the pool! Registration is now open.
